SolutionAcrylic mortar application and finishing systems

System description

With the passage of time, façade cladding deteriorates and needs to be renewed. The solution is to useREVAT® PLAS, REVAT® PLAS SLX, an acrylic mortar that is impermeable to rainwater, breathable, with excellent adhesion to the substrate and high resistance to weathering, which also allows a wide range of colours and textures.

PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE

The substrate must be perfectly cured, resistant and clean of dust and grease. Eliminate degraded parts or parts in poor condition.

On old coatings, the good state of the coating and its perfect adherence to the base substrate must be ensured by means of the grid test (*) or with a spatula.

(*) The grid test (for smooth paints) consists of making cuts in the old paint, forming squares of approximately 2×2 mm on a surface of 10×10 cm. The paint is considered to be well adhered to the substrate if 80 % of the squares remain well adhered, without peeling off. If this is not the case, it must be completely removed.

For better colour matching and adhesion, it is recommended to apply a first coat ofREVAT® FILMin the same colour.

FINISHES ACCORDING TO AGGREGATE SIZE

  • REVAT® PLAS ULTRAFINE(ultra-fine and drop trowelling).
  • REVAT® PLAS NORMAL(normal and drop trowelling).

APPLICATION AND PROJECTED FINISHING (drop)

Apply the material to the surface of the substrate with a spray gun; depending on the desired finish, use the different nozzle diameters available.

TROWELLING APPLICATION AND FINISHING

After 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the environmental conditions, we can obtain a trowelled finish by pressing lightly on the surface and making circular movements, always in the same direction.

IRONED APPLICATION AND FINISHING

After sprayingREVAT® PLAS, wait 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the ambient conditions, and then smooth the coated surface with a flat trowel until the surface is flattened.

APPLICATION AND STRIPED FINISH

Once the product has been applied with a plastic or steel trowel, successive passes are made in a vertical direction until a striped effect is achieved.

Recommendations

  • Shake the container mechanically.
  • Apply the material to the substrate with a trowel or spray gun depending on the desired finish.
  • When spraying, if necessary, add up to a maximum of 1 litre of water per 20 kg container.
  • Use painter’s tape to make working joints.
  • Apply on vertical surfaces or at an inclination of not less than 45ºC.
  • Do not apply to horizontal surfaces.
  • During application protect exposed areas from rain.
  • The ultra-fine finish requires a very good flatness of the substrate.
