Renovation of old façade cladding

SolutionRenovation of old façade cladding

System description

Until recently, to renovate façades clad with thick acrylic mortars, glass tiles or rough paints, it was necessary to completely remove the old cladding in order to apply a new one.

The use ofPROPAM® RENOVATIONhydraulic mortar allows a thin coating of the substrate surface, which facilitates the repair of existing spalling and the smoothing of the old coating, without the need to remove it. An acrylic coating(REVAT® FILM SLX,REVAT® PLAS) or lime mortar(REVAT® CAL TRADITIONAL) can then be applied as a new finish coating.

OLD ROUGH PAINT COATINGS

Check the adhesion of the old coating to the substrate, removing degraded or damaged parts by chemical pickling, hot pickling or repointing. In the particular case of granulite, its complete removal is recommended.

Wash the entire surface with acidified water to open the porosity in the substrate. Then rinse with plenty of clean water.

ApplyPROPAM® RENOVATIONin a maximum thickness of 2 to 3 mm (per coat) in the areas where the old coating has been removed. Apply if necessary over the old paint in good condition.

ApplyREVAT® CAL TRADITIONALto finish the façade with lime mortar. It is recommended to protect withREVAT® PROTEC ORG.

ANTIQUE VITREOUS TILE CLADDING

Apply REVAT® CAL ESTUCO or REVAT® CAL FINO to finish the façade with a lime stucco. Protect with REVAT® PROTEC ORG.

ANTIQUE VITREOUS TILE CLADDING

Check the adhesion of the old vitreous tile covering to the substrate with a rubber mallet. Remove poorly adhered areas.

Wash the entire surface with acidified water to open the porosity. Then rinse with plenty of clean water.

ApplyPROPAM® RENOVATIONin the areas where the vitreous tile has been removed. Then applyPROPAM® RENOVATIONin a layer 2 to 3 mm thick (per coat) over the entire surface to be covered with the new coating.

ApplyREVAT® FILM SLXorREVAT® PLASto finish the facade with an acrylic coating.

ApplyREVAT® CAL TRADITIONALto finish the façade with lime mortar. It is recommended to protect withREVAT® PROTEC ORG.

Recommendations

  • In the case of facades with surface disaggregation, applyPROPAM® DURto achieve a uniform and homogeneous behaviour of the substrate.
  • Depending on the state of the substrate and especially on vitreous tile substrates, it is recommended to applyPROPAM® AISTERM GLASS FIBRE MESH 160when the paste is still fresh. A minimum overlap of 10 cm must be ensured at the meeting with the next mesh in order to obtain a good final finish, it is recommended to give a second smoothing coat and then trowel it.
  • If the façade has cracks, carry out the work according to the FLEXIBLE SYSTEM: PROPAM® RENOVATION ANTI-CREVING
