4,000 m² of basement protected with our anti-adon solution

Implementing radon barriers in flooring not only protects people from exposure to this potentially dangerous gas, but also ensures the durability of structures, especially in projects where waterproofing is crucial to avoid moisture-related problems. Correct intervention not only mitigates risks, but also adds value to the project by ensuring safe environments that comply with current regulations.

Description of the work

This project focuses on the creation of a radon barrier in a 4,000 m² area corresponding to parking spaces. To achieve this, our cementitious waterproofing PROPAM® IMPE FLEX RADON was used, applied by spraying technique, which allows a uniform and efficient coverage.

The intervention included the waterproofing of the paving and cladding: on the slab prior to the laying of cavitis and the subsequent concrete paving, as well as on the diaphragm walls and the formwork walls at different levels. This integrated approach ensures the durability and functionality of the entire structure.

Reason for the intervention

The main challenge was to effectively protect against radon gas, a significant risk in this region. In addition, it sought to mitigate moisture problems arising from the presence of groundwater, a common challenge in underground structures.

Challenges and limitations

The need to protect a large surface area, combined with the complexity of working at underground levels, required a highly specialised solution. The application of PROPAM® IMPE FLEX RADON by spraying allowed not only to meet the technical requirements of the project, but also to optimise execution times.

The use of repair mortars was also used at singular points of the coating to ensure optimum support prior to application.
