How to make a barbecue

SolutionHow to make a barbecue

System description

The construction of barbecues, fireplaces, ovens, etc., requires the use of specific materials that can withstand the extreme conditions to which they will be subjected (high temperatures, expansion and contraction, etc.).

The solution consists of using PROPAM® REFRACTARIO, a refractory mortar which, due to its technical characteristics, is suitable for lining walls and making joints that are subjected to environments in contact with fire or high temperatures.

Sudden changes in temperature that occur when lighting barbecues, fireplaces, ovens, etc., cause expansion.

Shrinkage movements occur in the materials used when the installations are switched off.

These changes can lead to cracks and even cause detachment if the materials used are not suitable.

PROPAM® REFRACTARIOis an assembly mortar, with high mechanical resistance that can withstand temperatures of 1200ºC.

PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE

Check the state of the substrate, it must be completely set and free of dust, paint, oils, etc…

If it is exposed to the sun or if it is very absorbent, it is recommended to moisten it beforehand.

APPLICATION

Knead PROPAM® REFRACTARIO with a slow electric mixer (500 rpm) until a homogeneous, lump-free dough is obtained.

Apply the mortar with a trowel, respecting the application time of approximately 30 minutes.

The final finish of the joint can be profiled with the help of a trowel.

Recommendations

  • Apply between +5ºC and +35ºC temperature.
  • The mortar starts to harden after two hours, but reaches its strength after 24 hours.
  • Resistant up to 1200ºC.
  • Do not apply on plaster, paint or any other surface that can be disintegrated or without absorption.
