ETICS On Wood in the Fuentelencina Town Hall

The Town Hall was built in the 16th century, following Renaissance guidelines. The exterior features stone masonry in the highlights, portal, and baseboards; single-piece stone columns and wooden brackets and gallery covers. The rest of the building is plastered. The roof is a gabled structure, covered with Arab tiles.

Project description:

The project involves the external thermal insulation of 500m2 of the envelope over a wood composite base. The project was carried out by Instalaciones Guiplaelez, a company with extensive experience in the field.

Reason for the intervention:

To contribute to the building’s energy efficiency by implementing the Propam® Aisterm Confort system.

• The insulating panel used was 60mm expanded polystyrene (EPS).

• The system ends with 1.2mm thick acrylic mortar and a final OXIDE tone finish.

Challenges and limitations:

Wood composite bases require preliminary treatments that do not compromise adhesion and properly homogenize absorption prior to the installation of insulating panels.

Use of special fasteners for wood:

Due to the characteristics of wood, it is essential to use fasteners specifically designed for this type of substrate. The optimal screws or anchors must be threaded to avoid piercing or drilling the surface.

Integrating an external thermal insulation system into a structure that includes heritage elements, such as a medieval stone façade, requires optimizing energy efficiency, which may be compromised at specific points.

Molins Solutions:

• Preparation of the base and application of PROPAM PRIMER GRIP+ acrylic primer.

• Bonding and reinforcement of PROPAM® AISTERM PLACA EPS insulation panels with PROPAM® AISTERM adhesive and protective mortar.

• Fixing of insulation panels to the wood base with PROPAM® AISTERM fasteners for wood and sheet metal.

• Protective priming prior to the application of the finishing layer with PROPAM® COAT FILM acrylic mortar.

• Final protective and decorative finish with PROPAM® COAT TOP 1.2 acrylic mortar.
