SolutionMaking a glass block wall
System description
The glass block is a very useful material in construction as well as in decoration and interior design, as it can be used to separate rooms, showers, exterior walls, etc., or simply for decorative purposes.
For on-site installation, it is necessary to use PROPAM® GLAS, i.e. an assembly mortar which, due to its technical characteristics, allows the glass block to be fixed and the grout to be grouted, both indoors and outdoors.
It consists of two pieces of moulded glass, which are welded together at a very high temperature to create a vacuum air chamber between the two pieces. This air chamber gives it the capacity for thermal and acoustic insulation.
Once laid, it provides highly decorative finishes, given the wide range of formats and colours.

PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE
Check the state of the substrate, it must be completely set and free of dust, paint, oils, etc…
It is essential that the substrate is perfectly level, as this is the only way to ensure that the glass blocks are positioned correctly.
APPLICATION
Knead PROPAM® GLAS with a slow electric mixer (500 rpm) until a homogeneous, lump-free dough is obtained.
Reinforce the joints between blocks with 4 mm diameter galvanised steel rods, without them coming into contact with the blocks.
Apply PROPAM® GLAS on the glass blocks and place them with the help of crosspieces.
Remove the excess paste and proceed to the final finishing of the joints with the help of a rubber trowel, if necessary, the final finishing of the joint can be profiled with the help of a trowel.
Remove existing material residues by wiping the surface with a clean, dry cloth.
Recommendations
- Do not apply in rainy conditions, or at temperatures below +5ºC or above +30ºC.
- Leave a minimum joint of 10 mm between blocks.
- Partition walls exceeding 3 metres in width shall be fitted with galvanised rod at each vertical joint.
- Every second row, fix a galvanised anchor profile at both ends of the panel.
- Glass blocks are not structural and will never bear any load.
- The maximum area of one side of the partition shall not exceed 20 m2 .
- In case of expansion and contraction, an elastic perimeter seal should be installed to protect walls or window openings in direct contact with the glass blocks.
