We received a visit from Catalan President Salvador Illa at our facilities in Sant Vicenç dels Horts
- We have one of the most advanced cement plants in Europe, recognized for its efficiency and environmental respect.
Today, we received a visit from the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, at our headquarters in Sant Vicenç dels Horts (Barcelona). During the meeting, we highlighted our commitment to decarbonization and shared the progress made in our Sustainability Roadmap, which sets the path to reduce our CO2 emissions by 20% by 2030. This plan accelerates the efforts we have been undertaking since 1990, with the ultimate goal of providing carbon-neutral concrete by 2050.
During the meeting, we highlighted the ongoing projects in the field of sustainability, such as our Alternative Raw Materials (MPA) plant, which has allowed us to reuse more than 93,000 tons of construction and demolition waste in 2024. Additionally, we discussed innovative initiatives we are developing, such as energy efficiency projects aimed at reducing thermal consumption in our plants and CO2 emissions, or projects created in our artificial intelligence laboratory applied to industry.

Marcos Cela, our CEO, emphasized our commitment to the decarbonization of the cement sector: ‘At Molins, we have been driving concrete initiatives for years to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable industry. We are aware that the goal is very ambitious, but at the same time, we know that as a society, we cannot afford to set any other objective. That’s why we continue advancing with cutting-edge innovation projects that will allow us to develop new solutions. The visit of President Salvador Illa has been an excellent opportunity to share our progress and reaffirm our commitment to sustainable industrial development.”
The visit was attended not only by President Illa but also by the Government Delegate, Pilar Díaz, and the Mayor of Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Miguel Comino. From our side, our President, Juan Molins, and our CEO, Marcos Cela, participated, along with Salvador Fernández, Executive Vice President Cement & RMC Spain & Mexico, Carlos Martínez, Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer, and Ignacio Machimbarrena, Chief Innovation Officer.
