We join forces with Enagás to lead innovation in carbon capture and transportation in Europe
- We have agreed to submit the MOSUSOL NetCO₂ project to the Innovation Funds, which will capture one million tons of CO2 per year
- This comprehensive solution for carbon capture, transportation, utilization, and storage is cutting-edge and boasts strong technological reliability
- The initiative will position Spain as a leader in sustainable innovation and energy transition
Together with Enagás, we have taken a decisive step towards industrial decarbonization by formalizing a collaboration agreement to promote our joint candidacy for the Innovation Funds 2025 with the innovative MOSUSOL NetCO2 project. This ambitious initiative, which will integrate advanced carbon capture, transportation, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies, will position Spain as a leader in sustainable innovation and energy transition.
The MOSUSOL NetCO2 project sets a pioneering precedent in the transition toward sustainable industrial operations by integrating cutting-edge carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies with a next-generation CO2 transportation infrastructure. The initiative aims to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries, with a special focus on cement manufacturing, and establish Spain as a benchmark in carbon management innovation.
The project envisions capturing one million tons of CO2 annually at our plant in Sant Vicenç dels Horts (Barcelona), including the biogenic fraction, which will be transported via pipeline for subsequent storage and potential utilization in the production of green fuels. With a total estimated investment of €590 million, the project reinforces both companies’ commitment to sustainability and the fight against climate change. Additionally, it will significantly contribute to the decarbonization of industrial sectors and help reduce water consumption associated with industrial processes.
This open-access CO2 transportation network will provide transport, measurement, quality control, and efficient delivery of the captured carbon dioxide. Furthermore, it will integrate cutting-edge technologies to optimize the lifecycle management of the pipeline, enhancing both the safety and efficiency of the process.

Marcos Cela, our CEO, highlighted: “The MOSUSOL NetCO2 project is a testament to our strong commitment to decarbonization in the construction sector. The alliance with Enagás allows us to comprehensively address the emissions challenge, positioning Spain as a leader in sustainable innovation. Thanks to this collaboration, we are also strengthening our strategy to implement key actions for the energy transition, as outlined in our Sustainability Roadmap 2030. That is why the MOSUSOL NetCO2 project is an example of how cross-sector collaboration can accelerate decarbonization and contribute to European climate goals.”
Enagás CEO, Arturo Gonzalo, stated: “The MOSUSOL NetCO2 project is part of our goal to continue advancing our joint commitment to reducing the carbon footprint in hard-to-abate industrial sectors. It represents an opportunity for Enagás and Molins to jointly lead innovation to help decarbonize the industry while enhancing its competitiveness.”
Our collaboration with Enagás has already received the STEP (Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform) seal in the Innovation Funds 2023 call, recognizing the project as strategic for the European Union. By fostering a synergistic ecosystem that connects carbon capture, transportation, utilization, and storage, the MOSUSOL NetCO2 Project not only addresses industrial emissions in Catalonia—amounting to approximately 5 million tons annually—but also provides a scalable and replicable model to achieve carbon neutrality, enabling the development of a carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) hub not only in Catalonia but across the Mediterranean region.
Thanks to a comprehensive strategy and the deployment of innovative technologies, the MOSUSOL NetCO2 project exemplifies the pioneering vision of Molins and Enagás for sustainable industrial ecosystems, further strengthening their leadership in industrial decarbonization.
