We have recovered over 193,000 tons of waste at our Alternative Raw Materials (MPA) plant, strengthening our commitment to the circular economy

This year, we celebrate the third anniversary of our Alternative Raw Materials (MPA) plant, highlighting its key role in waste recovery and promoting the circular economy. By the end of 2024, the plant reached the significant milestone of recovering over 193,000 tons of construction, demolition, and other industrial waste since its inauguration. In 2024 alone, it processed more than 93,500 tons of materials, representing a 25% increase compared to the previous year. 

The MPA plant, located in Pallejà (Barcelona) and operational since late 2022, is one of our two highest-capacity circular economy facilities, alongside the mobile plant at the former Spotify Camp Nou. With this growth, our ARM plant has established itself as a benchmark in sustainable management and the company’s decarbonization goals. This circular economy facility not only gives construction waste a second life but also prevents the extraction of natural resources by reusing materials that meet all necessary technical and quality specifications.

Our Alternative Raw Materials (MPA) plant, covering an area of 3,250 square meters and authorized to process 95,000 tons annually, was inaugurated in 2022 following an investment of nearly two million euros. At this facility, waste in coarse, granular, powder, and sludge formats is processed through crushing, screening, dosing, and homogenization treatments. These processes enable the production of CE-marked recycled aggregates, as well as new alternative materials for cement production. The dosing of these materials at our cement plant has already prevented the direct emission of more than 3,600 tons of CO₂ in 2024, in addition to significantly reducing costs and transport-related emissions due to the close proximity of the two facilities. 

Our commitment to circularity 

We have made material recovery one of the core pillars of our strategy, integrating the circular economy as one of our six business areas, alongside cement, concrete and aggregates, construction solutions, prefabricated solutions, and urban landscaping. We recover waste both materially and energetically, giving it a second life by reintegrating it as alternative fuels or raw materials in production processes. 

Our commitment to a circular business model not only helps limit the use of natural resources and reduce environmental impact but also promotes a more efficient and sustainable economy. In addition to the Alternative Raw Materials plant, we operate seven other circular economy facilities across Spain, recovering steel aggregates, construction and demolition waste, and end-of-life tires, among other materials. In 2024, we recovered more than 345,000 tons of waste, marking a 52% increase compared to the previous year.
