100,000 tons of recycled material for the new Spotify Camp Nou

We have installed a waste recovery plant that will allow 100,000 tons of debris from the demolition of the old Spotify Camp Nou to have a second life as raw materials for the construction of the new stadium.

By October, more than 90,000 tons of debris from the old Camp Nou had already been repurposed for the construction of FC Barcelona’s new stadium. In the coming months, an additional 10,000 tons will be used, primarily for infill and paving, as well as for producing low-carbon concrete.

This is how we contribute to the decarbonization of the club’s new stadium. By installing a waste recovery plant, we repurpose materials from the old Spotify Camp Nou, integrating circular economy principles into the project and reducing the need for new natural raw materials.

The reuse of demolition waste from the old stadium is not the only strategy for decarbonizing the construction project. We will also supply a total of 160,000 m³ of Susterra concrete, a low-carbon range that incorporates recycled materials in its production.

The New Susterra Solutions Range

The Susterra range represents another step forward in our commitment to circularity and sustainability across all stages of the construction process. These solutions with sustainable attributes not only meet the highest sustainability standards but also contribute significantly to reducing emissions and enhancing the sustainability of the construction sector.

This new range includes solutions that drive the circular economy by reusing materials, utilizing alternative fuels, and incorporating recycled materials into its products. It also aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by increasing energy efficiency, replacing fossil fuels, and using recycled additives and aggregates. Additionally, it fosters safe working environments with solutions that help lower emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Susterra is a true reflection of our integrated business model: it encompasses everything from cements and concretes that achieve over a 20% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to the CEM I types produced by the company in Spain in 2020, to urban furniture solutions and circular economy innovations.

“Susterra solutions will not only help us achieve the goals we have set as a company but also enable our value chain to meet its sustainability objectives,” says Carlos Martínez, our Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer.
