Celebration of Aggregates and Biodiversity Day in La Falconera

The 13th edition of this event was held on 7 April, with the participation of the Escola Pia de Sitges.

Every year La Falconera celebrates the Aggregates and Biodiversity Day and on this occasion two classes of first year ESO of the Escola Pia de Sitges took part. The meeting was held on 7 April and was the 13th edition of the day, which is focused on celebrating and disseminating our activity, organised by the Catalan Aggregates Guild, of which Molins is a member.

The children were first picked up at Can Robert Park in Sitges at 9.30 am and, once they arrived at La Falconera at around 10.15 am, they put on the corresponding personal protective equipment (helmet and reflective waistcoats). Afterwards, they had breakfast outside the environmental classroom set up at La Falconera.

Next, Pilar López, Head of Environment at Molins, explained the activity carried out by the company, the uses of the aggregates and the environmental measures taken to be more sustainable every day. Later, Emili Valbuena, biologist of the Garraf Natural Park, commented on the peculiarities of the Natural Park and which species predominate.

We were also accompanied on the visit by Marc Sanglas, Director General of the DGQA (Directorate General for Environmental Quality and Climate Change); Aurora Carbonell, the Mayoress of Sitges; Eduard Terrad, Sitges Town Councillor for Town Planning and the Environment; Xavier Carbonell, Head of Service of the DGQA; Carlos Marco, DGQA Inspector; Adelina Pardo, DGQA Inspector; and Jaume Puig, manager of the Catalan Aggregates Guild.

Later, a planting of native species took place in the restored area of the quarry: white pine, mastic, juniper and kermes oak. It was a very playful and symbolic activity in which children and adults participated. Finally, the day ended with a joint photograph around a heavy-duty off-road dump truck. And finally, we said goodbye after spending a good time learning about local plants and learning a little more about the Natural Park and how to preserve it.
