We take part in the CATFLOWE Forum
The development of floating offshore wind energy in the Mediterranean was the main focus of the Forum CATFLOWE (Catalonia Floating Offshore Wind Energy), held at the Port of Tarragona. The event brought together key stakeholders from the energy, industrial and academic sectors to analyse the technological challenges and opportunities that this renewable source offers in the energy transition process.
During the session, Jordi Altet, Quality and R&D Director at Molins Concrete & Aggregates, presented a concrete solution specifically developed for offshore wind infrastructures. The material has been designed to meet the high structural and durability requirements of floating foundations and platforms, ensuring optimal performance in demanding marine environments.
This new formulation stands out for its low carbon footprint, the use of recycled materials and minimal maintenance needs, offering a more sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional solutions. It also contributes to significantly reducing environmental impact and promotes construction models based on circular economy principles.
The technology is part of the WINDCRETE project, an initiative that promotes an innovative design adaptable to different manufacturing and operating conditions. Thanks to its monolithic configuration and high durability, it provides technical and economic advantages over other market options, contributing to the sustainable development of offshore wind energy in the Mediterranean.
Participation in this forum reinforces Molins’ commitment to innovation and the decarbonisation of the construction sector, with the goal of delivering materials that drive the transition towards a more sustainable energy model.
