Sharing progress on the La Falconera restoration project

On 20 November, the Mine and Quarry Restoration Network, the Directorate-General for Climate Change and Environmental Quality of the Government of Catalonia, and the Catalan Aggregates Guild organised a technical visit to our La Falconera quarry, located in the Garraf massif (Barcelona).

The visit provided an opportunity to present first-hand the restoration project currently being developed at this site, as well as to share the approach and criteria guiding the ongoing works. The project is being carried out in collaboration with Aspecte Paisatge, incorporating a landscape and environmental vision adapted to the characteristics of the surrounding area.

During the visit, the restoration works in progress and the research lines promoted by Molins in collaboration with CREAF, the Garraf Natural Park and landscape architect Martirià Figueras were presented. These initiatives aim to improve landscape integration, support the progressive environmental recovery of the site and actively promote biodiversity through the application of nature-based solutions.

The incorporation of circular economy principles into the restoration process was also highlighted, enabling the optimisation of resources, the reuse of materials from extractive activities, and the reduction of environmental impact. This approach reinforces Molins’ commitment to a responsible and sustainable management of quarries, aligned with current environmental and climate objectives.

The technical visit provided a valuable opportunity for knowledge and experience sharing among the different stakeholders involved, underlining the importance of collaboration between public authorities, sector organisations and technical teams in advancing towards more innovative and environmentally responsible restoration models.
