Our Alternative Raw Materials plant surpasses 193,000 tonnes of valorised waste
The Alternative Raw Materials plant increases waste valorisation by 25% in 2024
In 2024, the Alternative Raw Materials (MPA) plant recorded a 25% increase in the volume of waste valorised compared to the previous year, strengthening its position as one of the facilities with the highest treatment capacity within Molins’ circular economy initiatives.
Marking its third anniversary in 2025, the plant has reached a new milestone: more than 193,000 tonnes of waste valorised since it began operations, mainly from construction, demolition and various industrial processes. In 2024 alone, the facility processed over 93,500 tonnes of materials, reflecting steady growth since it started operating at the end of 2022.
Located in Pallejà (Barcelona), the MPA plant is among the largest facilities dedicated to the circular economy, together with the mobile plant located at the former Spotify Camp Nou. This growth reinforces its contribution to responsible waste management and decarbonisation objectives, enabling the reuse of materials that meet the highest technical and quality standards while reducing the need to extract new natural resources.
According to Carlos Martínez, Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer, “the Alternative Raw Materials plant clearly reflects how circularity is being fully integrated into our processes. Waste valorisation is a key pillar of our sustainability strategy, and we will continue to promote it to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to the fight against climate change.”
The facility covers an area of 3,250 square metres and is authorised to treat up to 95,000 tonnes per year. It involved an investment of close to two million euros at the time of its inauguration. The plant processes waste in different formats —coarse, granular, powder and sludge— through crushing, screening, dosing and homogenisation processes. These treatments make it possible to produce CE-marked recycled aggregates and alternative materials for industrial processes.
Thanks to the use of these materials, more than 3,600 tonnes of direct CO₂ emissions were avoided in 2024, in addition to significantly reducing transport-related emissions and costs due to the proximity of the production facilities.
Continued commitment to the circular economy
Material valorisation has become a strategic pillar in the transition towards a more efficient and sustainable model. This approach extends the useful life of waste by reincorporating it as a valuable resource and reducing the environmental impact of production activities.
In addition to the Alternative Raw Materials plant, other circular economy-oriented facilities are operated across Spain, where waste such as steelmaking aggregates, construction and demolition materials, and end-of-life tyres are valorised. In 2024 alone, more than 345,000 tonnes of waste were valorised, representing a 52% increase compared to the previous year.
